このBlogには習作でも掲載してきたが、今回もネコトコトリのシリーズの新しい試みである。単なる言葉の遊びと思われるかもしれないが、毎回何かしら試していることがあって、今回は感じ二文字の熟語とリズムの組み合わせをテストしている。
もし、夏と冬とが同居したシーンと快楽と苦行が淡々と同居する日常とが混じり合った記憶のようなものとを感じ取っていただけたら、この詩は成功したと思っているのだが、どうだろうか。

It was a somewhat unusual year. In 2023, after returning from France, I worked full-time in Japan, took almost a month’s vacation, and moved to a new job. So, I have selected some photos that I took during my off time.
The photo above was taken in Hokkaido, the northernmost part of Japan. Spending your meal time in a different place, with different food, and in a different way is a great way to break out of the mundane. There was a canal between the restaurant and me, with small boats passing by.
The photo below was taken in the Okinawa region, the southernmost tip of Japan. It was a very relaxing time just looking at the calm sea.
The last photo was taken in Kanagawa Prefecture, where I live. I knew there were orange groves, but I didn’t know they were so sweet. Interestingly, some of the orchards have farmers’ stands where you can pick your own, and I ate lots of oranges there while looking out at the beautiful sea.
As you know, those are not my favorite shots but favorite places I’ve been last year.

2023年はいつもと違う年だった。 フランスから帰国後、完全に1年間日本で働き、ほぼ1か月の休暇を取り、新しい仕事を始めた年だった。 ということで、オフタイムに撮った写真をいくつか選んでみた。
上の写真は日本の最北端、北海道で撮影したものだ。 いつもと違う場所で、いつもと違う食材を、いつもと違う方法で食事する時を過ごすことは、日常から抜け出す素晴らしい方法だ。このレストランと私の間には運河があり、小さな船が行き交っていた。
下の写真は、日本の最南端である沖縄で撮影した。 穏やかな海を眺めているだけでとても癒される時間だった。
最後の写真は住んでいる神奈川県で撮った。 ミカン園があるのは知っていたが、こんなに甘いとは知らなかった。 興味深いことに、果樹園の中には観光農園をしているところがあり、そこで美しい海を眺めながらみかんをたくさん食べた。
1月上旬だというのに今日の横浜は17度ほどまで気温が上昇したようで、外を歩くのにも日差しの下ではコットンシャツだけでも十分な暖かさだった。春のような陽気に家庭菜園で作業する人や公園で遊ぶ子供たちも多く、すれ違う人々も皆コートを脱いで脇に抱えていたりした。
寒い冬型になる前には低気圧が日本列島を通過していくわけだが、多分今日はだいぶ北を通ったのだろう。その低気圧に向かって南風が吹き込むから南関東には太平洋の暖かな空気が入り込んで気温が上がるのだとどこかで聞いた気がする。地球温暖化なのか、それとも毎年の恒例行事となったエルニーニョ現象の類いなのか、きっと誰にも分からないのではないかなどと、少々悲観的な見方をしてしまう。
そんな暖かで日差しのある時には、室温も上がる。室温計は昼時には23度。午後には汗ばむほどになって、甘ったるいアイスコーヒーが飲みたくなった。
コーヒーを飲む時はエスプレッソだろうがドリップだろうがいつもブラックで、その上コーヒーを飲んで眠くなるタイプだったからフランスでは変人扱いされた事もあったが、まれに甘ったるいアイスコーヒーが飲みたくなることもあるのである。つまりは、その甘ったるいコーヒーと普段飲むコーヒーは、自分の中で別物なのだ。
ヨーロッパにはアイスコーヒーがないと書いているサイトもあるが、全くないわけでもない。確かにフランスのカフェには滅多に置いてないが、今時はスタバも進出しているし、スーパーに置いてあったりもする。ギリシャでは昔からフラッペというインスタントコーヒーを泡立てたアイスコーヒーがある。しかも名前はネスカフェだったりする。中身はフラペチーノみたいなものだが、氷が入っているとは限らない。ずっと庶民的な感覚の飲み物だ。
あー飲みたい。
Even though it was early January, the temperature in Yokohama seemed to have risen to around 17 degrees Celsius today, and it was warm enough to walk outside in just a cotton shirt under the sunshine. There were many people working in their vegetable gardens and children playing in the park in a cheerful spring-like atmosphere, and everyone I passed took off their coats and carried them under their arms.
A low-pressure system passes over Japan before it becomes a typical winter atmospheric pressure distribution, but it probably passed quite north today. I think I heard somewhere that southerly winds blow into the low-pressure area, causing warm air from the Pacific Ocean to enter the southern Kanto region, causing temperatures to rise. I take a somewhat pessimistic view, thinking that no one will ever know whether it is global warming or a type of El Niño phenomenon that has become an annual event.
When it’s warm and sunny, the room temperature rises. The thermometer read 23 degrees at noon. By the afternoon, I was sweating so much that I wanted a sweet iced coffee.
When I have a coffee, whether it’s espresso or paper drip, it’s always coffee without sugar nor milk, and on top of that, I’m the type of person who gets sleepy after I drink coffee, so I was treated like a weirdo. It was when I lived in France. But on rare occasions, I find myself craving a sweet iced coffee. In other words, that sweet coffee and the coffee I usually drink are different things for me.
There are some websites that say there is no iced coffee in Europe, but that doesn’t mean there is no iced coffee at all. It’s true that they are rarely served in French cafes, but Starbucks has expanded into French market these days, and you can even find them in supermarkets.
In Greece, there has been an iced coffee called frappe for many years which is made by whipping instant coffee. Moreover, the name is maybe Nescafe. The filling is similar to a Frappuccino, but it doesn’t necessarily have ice in it. It has always been a soft-drink with a commoner feel.
Ah, I want it.
I’m not the type to make New Year’s resolutions. I know it will be abandoned soon. I’m not the kind of person who prays for a good year. I know I’m not going to do anything for the world. However, I believe that our planet will always improve into the future if you and I trust in each other. I wish you are starting a happy and good new year.
新年の誓いを立てるような人間ではありませんし、世界が良くなるように祈るタイプの人間でもありません。三日坊主な上に、世界のために何かをしようなどと考えたりしないことは自覚しています。でも、誰もが相互に信頼すれば何もかもが良くなるような気がしています。より良い一年になりますように。

今年2023年に一番読まれた記事は何かなと思ってチェックしたら、2019年の「CDG 2G」だった。乱暴にまとめるならパリ・シャルル・ド・ゴール空港の乗り継ぎの愚痴を書いただけの記事だし、4年も前に書いた蜘蛛の巣のかかったような古いものである。なんだかちょっとがっかりするような、すっきりとしない結果なのだが、もしかするとそれだけ旅行者が増えて検索結果に表示されたということかなと思ったりもする。日常が戻ってきたならそれはそれで良い話だ。
二番目に読まれた記事は今年の新しいもので「切り通し」という7月のミニコラムだった。鎌倉をぶらぶらと歩いた時の感想を散文詩的に書いて、そこにちょっとした感想のようなものをつけ足しただけだから、よくもまあこんなものを読んでいただけたと嬉しくもある。とは言ってもアクセス数にはトップの「CDG 2G」と3倍もの開きがあるから、記事が人気という話でもなさそうである。途中まで書いて放り投げているカフェ・エベレスト・シリーズの習作も兼ねていたのでアクセスがあったことは良いことなのだが、どうやら一喜一憂するようなことではないらしい。
存外見向きもされなかったのは、「雨降りの昼下がり（詩篇）」という詩作であって、ほとんどアクセスもなければいいねも少ない。つくづく詩の市場は小さいのだなと思う。最近は短歌が流行りだというが、実際に世の中に溢れている短歌のほとんどが内省的な気持ちを読んだものであって、はなから多くに読まれることを期待していないものも多い印象である。名の知れた詩人であっても時に自費出版という時代だそうだから、仕方ないのだろう。せめて貶されたいと妙な感情を抱いてしまう。
トップの写真は八重山諸島の夕暮れである。1年を締めくくるには良い、なんと柔らかでゆったりとした場所なのだろう。
One of the most popular articles in English this year was “Lens Artists Challenge #275: Filling the Frame,” which talked about how much I missed fall. I don’t like to mention global warming in all phenomena related to extreme weather, but this year’s hot summer and autumn were clearly not so pleasant and unlike in the past.
Another popular article is “LAPC – Spiritual Sites.” After moving from Western France to Yokohama, Japan, I visited the southern islands of the Yaeyama Islands for vacation. Everything was beautiful and every food was delicious. If there is a place I have never been to, it would be Utaki, a sacred place where you should not set foot. I will definitely visit there again in the future.
A photo on top was taken at the Yaeyama islands. It’s a nice and calming scenery to end this year.
