These books are old paperbacks in Japan. A big publishing company added a tassel – bookmark, which is called spin(e) in Japan – to their paperbacks and I liked it. Probably, near future, a question would be raised; what it this ribbon fraying. For today many people use a tablet to read books. Even in a digital equipment, of course, you can easily go wild.
Sometimes, though it might be frayed by artificial means.

お盆の混雑する東北道、混雑する蓮田SAを避けて羽生PAに立ち寄ったところ、大き目のごく普通のパーキングエリアだった羽生は、タイムスリップでもしたような江戸の様相にすっかり変わっていた。「鬼平江戸処」と言うらしい。火付盗賊改方（ひつけとうぞくあらためかた）長谷川平蔵（通称鬼の平蔵）を描いた池波正太郎の「鬼平犯科帳」をモチーフにしたということだろう。何故羽生なのかは分からないが、少なくともそこは鬼平が闊歩する日本橋である。裏手には芝居小屋（中に入れるわけではない）もあり、自動販売機ですら目立たないように風景に溶け込んでいる。
柳の向こうに見える日本橋の大通りを賑やかに歩くのは、もちろん江戸の町人ではなく、東北道を走りつかれた人々がしばしの休憩を取っているのだが、不思議と混雑している様相はパーキングエリアのそれとは違って、江戸の活気あふれる人混みのようでもある。風に揺れる柳の小枝の反対側は、日本橋川でも神田川でもなく車の流れであるが、写真で切り取れば、そんなことも気にならない。
池波正太郎ファンなら、恐らくは相当楽しい風景なのだろう。小説やドラマに出てくるであろう大店（おおだな）のひとつひとつを見てそれが何か分かるほどの知識がないのが残念だが、知らずとも想像するだけでよい。そもそも多くの人がスマートフォンやカメラで写真を撮っている様子からして、鬼平が何者かすら知らずとも楽しめそうだということだ。なんとなく一休みと思って立ち寄ったら何やら江戸の風景が広がっていて、日光江戸村か映画のセットのような気分で歩いてみたら結構楽しいといったところではないか。
もちろん、セットは張りぼてではない。建物の中もしっかりとそれらしく作られている。お土産屋さんはもちろん普通の現代のお土産屋さんであって、江戸の店先とは異なるのだが、その雰囲気はしっかりと違和感の少ない形になっている。
もし東北道の上りを走る機会があったら、話のネタに一度立ち寄ってみてはどうだろうか。最近は、SAやPAがリニューアルしてなかなか楽しい場所になってきた。体を休めるだけでなく、気分もリフレッシュできるならそれが一番良い。一般的なお盆休みが終わったころになっての情報で役に立たないかもしれないが、秋の行楽シーズンにでもチャンスがあれば立ち寄っても面白いかもしれない。

At first, this image was another candidate but I thought it was a little bit difficult to crop it in proper aspect ratio. The image was a silhouette of Nice Airport viewing from Promenade des Anglais, a famous beach there.
Where the picture was taken is in Yokohama. A silhouette makes an ordinary view beautiful.

It was the day of the extra super moon (perigee full moon) this early morning but unfortunately it was bad weather because of the typhoon. The picture was taken last week end, one week ago, in the daytime.
In November, last year, I posted a photo of a door locked by a creeper colored by autumn red. It was a kind of art made by nature. This early summer, the door was still locked. Mostly same, time hasn’t changed it but color – it was green season – and, more than a half year, nobody tried to open it even though it was easy to do. Now it’s time to say how it is. There’s nothing. Somebody, probably a faithful caretaker, would decide to clean up.
昨年の11月、紅葉したツタに鍵をかけられたドアの写真をポストした。それは自然が作ったアートのようだった。今年の初夏、半年を過ぎてなお、ドアは依然として閉じられており、色以外はすべて同じであった。簡単に開けられるというのに、誰も開けようとしなかったのだろう。今、それがどんな様子か言う時がきた。今、そこには何もない。誰かが、恐らくは生真面目な管理人が、片付けようと決心したのだ。
Sometimes nature makes artificial things without intention. Yes, no intention. That’s nature but we find something in it probably because we see it through our eyes. In winter, I posted such a nature made art which was a snowy bike. It was a bad weather, heavy snow falling and still humid. The thermometer indicated around 0 degree in C even when it was snowy. Such a strange condition made this object.
時々、自然は意図せず人口的なものを作り出す。意図などない。それが自然であり、我々はそれを自分の目で見るからそこに何かを見出すのだ。冬にそんな雪の自転車の写真をアップした。ひどい天気で激しく雪が降っており、なお、湿度が高かった。寒暖計は０度を示し、そんな妙な天気がこの物体を作ったのだった。
A week ago, I found another fun art. Red traffic cones made an uncommon view. Of course, these cones were just waiting for being used. A methodical person might put them. Anyway it looked a kind of art with no intention.
一週間ほど前、他の楽しいアートを発見した。赤いパイロンが普通とは違う景色をあらわしていた。もちろん、パイロンは出番を待っていただけだ。几帳面な誰かが置いたのだろう。ともかくそれは、意図のないアートみたいなもののようだった。
