“Is it really that hot in Japan?” It’s been a hot summer to say the least. It might be strange to say, “It’s only 31 degrees centigrade today, isn’t it cool?” Commuters swaying on the crowded train in the morning, even though the air conditioning was on, everyone wiped their sweat with handkerchiefs, took off their masks that they stick to wear, and cursed. “This year is abnormal. It wasn’t this hot last year.” When I talked to my my colleague like that, he will say it coldly with a disgusted look. “You came back to Japan in July last year. Last year, June was hot like summer, and in July it was all rain. Same in August. That was weird.” Somehow I felt strange when I’m told as if I’m weird. Anyway, a hot summer has just started.
