These books are old paperbacks in Japan. A big publishing company added a tassel – bookmark, which is called spin(e) in Japan – to their paperbacks and I liked it. Probably, near future, a question would be raised; what it this ribbon fraying. For today many people use a tablet to read books. Even in a digital equipment, of course, you can easily go wild.
Sometimes, though it might be frayed by artificial means.
