You may not see anything special from the picture but the place is called Saji-on (中筋御嶽) of Taketomi island, a place of worship. The island is a part of Yaeyama islands of Okinawa prefecture in Japan where it is located just next to Taiwan. ‘On’ (御嶽) is also known as ’Utaki’ in other places but it has same meaning. Honestly saying, I haven’t seen also anything there because entering ‘On’ is prohibited to men. All I could do was to see the path to ‘On’. Even if you are woman, I don’t recommend to step into. It is a place for praying but not for sightseeing.
Since last Saturday, all photos I have posted were taken at Yaeyama islands. The last one is at bottom.
なんとなく始めた八重山諸島ウイークも下の写真で終了。

I have seen many times places and things that are available only to men Tagnoue, but this is the first time I’ve seen one only for women. Thanks for sharing this with us.
You’re welcome. Broadly speaking, it is a form of shamanism, and there are several similar women-only places in Japan. In most cases, it is open to men, but not in Okinawa. Very interesting and unique.
Interesting that it is forbidden to men. The entrance is quiet, as you say a place to respect it’s purpose.
A respectful message was written in front of the gate that men were forbidden, but there was no door. Anyone can enter it, but no one will.
Don’t you LOVE that? The ultimate respect.
Definitely I love that. What a wonderful way to communicate.

You’re welcome
Love this.
Unique angle
Thank you.
You are welcome, my friend.
Why it is prohibited for men?
It is a part of religion. Honestly saying, I don’t know why but, at least, I like it.
OK. I get it.
Yes. One can not question the wisdom that are taught to us by our elders.
Right, indeed.
👍👍👍
Such beautiful scenery!
yes! It’s a really beautiful place.
👍
Thanks for the link. Interesting. I will ask the Japanese site I follow to discuss about this.
Perhaps some articles may be a bit difficult to catch the background of the explanation even for Japanese but it’s really interesting. Enjoy!
